Chinese GP: Favourite moment and facts

Shanghai has hosted a Grand Prix since 2004, and now we are on the edge of watching the 2015 race. Lewis Hamilton secured pole position this Saturday and is the 4th driver after Senna, Fangio & Schumacher to claim 5+ poles at a single track.

The Chinese F1 circuit is a 5.451-kilometre shape of the Chinese character ‘shang', which stands for high or above. And it features a 1.2km back straight to behold.

Looking back, memorable moments include:

  • The inaugural race, won by Ferraris Rubens Barrichello over Jenson Button, in what was Ruben's last win for the Scuderia. It also is the closest winning margin of any Grand Prix in Shanghai.
  • Schumacher's comeback from sixth on the grid to beat Fernando Alonso in 2006, race which meant Michael's last F1 career win (91st).
  • Hamilton's retirement in 2007 when he got stuck in the gravel and lost to Raikkonen in 2007 - victory 200 for Kimi which would come as a blow for Lewis's chances of winning the title.
