Chinese GP: Hamilton fastest as Ferrari gets closer

Lewis Hamilton topped the leaderboard on Friday’s second practice session for the Chinese GP ahead of Raikkonen, Riccardo, and Vettel. Lewis’s lap on the option tyre, worth around 2 sec per lap quicker than the primes.

FP2 saw among other things a ‘lunatic’ running through the main straight towards the paddock and leaping into it. He was then reportedly arrested by security.

We also learned an astonishing fact: Did you know in three seconds of F1 braking, you can create enough energy to power a fridge freezer for an entire year? Incredible.

Back to the cars and the action though, Felipe Massa had a big moment as he just avoided the wall during a big rear-lockup which resulted in the session’s only red flag - stopping outside turn 14. Kvyat then had a small fire and smoke from his left-rear tyre and went off track. He stopped after a brake failure.

Overall we could see McLaren’s running better, Red Bull - Kvyat incident aside - making a proper step forward in pace, and the Marussias steady in their way to try and start another race.
