In Pictures: Styria 2020
For the first time in the history of Formula One we had two back-to-back races at the same circuit. The coronavirus pandemic has changed the season quite a bit. The second race at the Red Bull Ring in beautiful Austria was named the Styrian Grand Prix for the region the racetrack is located in; Styria is a mountainous, forested state in southern Austria, known for its wine, spas, castles and F1 racing.
The weekend started with nice weather, but was due to change on Saturday as heavy rains drenched the circuit. Free Practice 3 was delayed indefinitely and after a few minutes it was cancelled. Qualifying started o a very wet track with rain coming and going, which gave us some of the most exciting qualifying for some time. In the end it was Lewis Hamilton wo secured his 89th pole position of his Formula One career with an epic drive, 1.2 seconds ahead of Max Verstappen in second.
The race started with lots of drama in the back as the two Ferrari collided ending both their races. At the front it was all Hamilton, who dominated from start to finish. McLaren’s Carlos Sainz set a new lap record with a time of 1:05.619. Here are some quotes from the drivers:
