Rosberg wins incident-filled Bahrain race
Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg has now won five times in a row with a perfect race from start to finish this Sunday. Kimi Raikkonen came in second and has now more podiums (8) than any other at Bahrain.
It was a dramatic start of the race with Sebastian Vettel retiring from the formation lap due to an engine failure, and Lewis Hamilton suffering contact from Valtteri Bottas into Turn 1 at the very start. One lap later it would be Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz who collided in the same place.
With plenty different strategies out there, the action was all over the field and it was Romain Grosjean and Pascal Wehrlein who shined the most.
Grosjean topped his amazing debut in Melbourne, and overtook Williams three times, Red Bull twice to finish a fantastic 5th place for Haas, ahead of Max Verstappen’s Toro Rosso.
For Pascal Wehrlein, the exhibition meant overtaking Force Indias, Saubers, and Williams for a solid 13th place in a great performance.
Also on a high note is debutant Stoffel Vandoorne for McLaren, as he was fast, consistent, and gained the team’s first season points - as are his first ever F1 points - in an excellent 10th.
Among the victims today due to technical issues were Carlos Sainz, Esteban Gutierrez, Jenson Button and Jolyon Palmer, beside the previously mentioned Vettel.
