The penalty game at Spielberg
McLaren’s Fernando Alonso and Red Bull’s Daniil Kvyat and Daniel Ricciardo were all confirmed for penalties on Friday. This Saturday, we learned Jenson Button joins the fray of penalized drivers for this Sunday’s race in Austria.
Alonso’s McLaren was fitted with a fifth V6 engine, MGU-H and turbo to add up to a 20-place penalty.
Meanwhile at Red Bull, both drivers will receive a 10-place grid penalty after getting new engines ahead of the Friday practices. Team boss Christian Horner said its "Obviously far from ideal in Austria, but it was unfortunately on the cards as soon as we got onto engine four very early on."
Now Jenson Button has been handed a 25-place penalty after changing all components of his Honda engine. The penalty cannot be fully served, meaning he will get a drive-through most likely.
